Can you please explain muscle memory!

I've recently read about muscle memory and that if you don't work your muscles every day or two they don't get the message to work harder, grow and change. Is this true or not?

Muscle memory works more like the analogy "Once you have learnt to ride a bike you never forget." The muscles once developed will regain size and strength quicker if you are coming back from an injury or time off. You need to train your muscles regularly to increase strength and capacity, every 1 to 4 days will give you superior conditioning although there are a number of variables that need to be considered when programming your training.
