Is the fibre content of dried fruit really 'higher' than fresh fruit?

Or is it just that dried fruit is more 'concentrated' than fresh fruit?

Water is removed from fresh fruit to dehydrate it into dried fruit and therefore “concentrate” it. So you are correct. While 30 grams of dried fruit has more fibre than 30 grams of fresh fruit, one dried apricot has the same amount of fibre as one fresh apricot.

Be careful when eating dried fruit because the Calories can add up. The water has been removed from fresh fruit to dry it out but the Calories are still there. You can look up the amount of fibre in a Calorie counter book that has fibre and compare fresh fruit and dried fruit or use the Biggest Loser Club online. Getting enough fibre is important to try and prevent constipation and colon cancer. The daily fibre target for women is 25g and for men, it’s 30g.

I agree with topwood. Fresh fruit is always nicer to eat than dried. And don't forget there is more sugar in the dried fruits.

Why not add Physillium husks to your diet, much gentler than bran and very easy to drink or add to cereal. That way you can eat nice fresh fruit without the added sugar and preservatives.
