How many slices of bread is it allowable to eat each day?

My husband and I both love to eat healthily but find it hard to drop those few extra kilos around the middle! He eats about 10 slices of bread a day (mostly just with salad/vinegar/cheese/flaxseed oil/tuna). I eat 2-4 slices with the same filling. We each have butter on maybe 2 of those slices per day.

The amount of bread you’re eating currently may be best suited the amount needed to maintain your weight loss. If you want to continue losing weight I suggest your husband drops 2-3 slices a day and you drop 1-2 slices a day from your current intake.

However, so you don’t feel hungry, you will need to replace that volume of food with more salad vegetables, so your tummy does not think you’re missing out. Try making open sandwiches and that way it is easy to double the filling. You could take a separate lunch box of ingredients to make open sandwiches for your lunch at work or try Mountain Bread to make wrap style sandwiches. One slice of Mountain bread has about the same Calories as 1 slice of bread but holds a lot of filling.

You could also have some vegetable soup with your meals which would keep your Calories down but fill you up. Give this a go and then when you and your husband hit a plateau or feel you need more help than this, I suggest seeing an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD).

If you must eat bread try an organic Spelt variety, much easier to digest.

Half the amount of bread you are both having and don't use any butter. Have more fruit and vegies to fill up on. And drink more water, you may not be hungry but thirsty.

Yup - 10 slices is way too much. Try making a tuna salad instead, having soupe as Clare suggested and nuts to fill you up.

Are you crazy, 10 slices each day is way over the top. Even if it is s
'so called' health bread it is a processed product and should be eaten in moderation. By moderation I mean a x2 slices a couple of times a week. The thing is wheat is very hard to digest once it is turned into flour, also don't forget bread contain 'other' bad ingredients like preservatives. Personally I would way yourselves and really try hard not to eat bread for one week and see how you feel. I bet (once you get over the shock of not eating dough EVERYDAY) you guys will fell 110% better. PS Dickielee I am 'not' a bread hater... i love the stuff but have learn't he hard way and that my body works better when I eat it only a couple of time a week. Opps I almost forgot, not good to eat for breakies either, protein is much better otherwise your get a insulin surge soon after breakfast and then wanting more food. Yoghurt and fruit or egg, cheese etc. Trust me once you start to feel better you easily get used to it. :0)
