What are some healthy ‘feel good’ foods?

What would be some healthier alternatives to replace those feel good foods like chocolate and other sugary sweets?

The good news is that there are lots of sweet treats you can cook for yourself that are good for you. Try one of the sweet recipes in the Biggest Loser cook books, modify a home recipe or try a diet chocolate mousse or diet yoghurt from the supermarket – just look for a Heart Foundation tick.

If you have a sweet tooth, try reduced fat custard with a fruit compote. To make the fruit compote, stew rhubarb with an artificial sweetener or just a small amount of sugar, a cinnamon stick and some frozen berries. If you like cakes and biscuits make them with canola or polyunsaturated margarine and take a ¼ of the margarine out of the recipe and replace it with apple puree.

Go for sweet recipes that feature fruit and vegetables, such as a cake with a layer of apples or grated zucchini or carrot added. Check the Calorie count and balance it with exercise.

Chocolate releases endorphins, which is why you 'feel-good'. If you want a healthy alternative, try a no fat yoghurt with some fruit, or if you're not 'hungry' but you're just feeling unhappy, go for a run! I know it doesnt sound like the best idea but once you have, you'll come home, take a shower, and feel much happier, because you've just released the endorphins that you would otherwise have gotten from chocolates and sweets.

Low fat custard with diet jelly with some added fresh fruit. Strawberries are great! Air popped popcorn, no butter. Diet yoghurt or maybe some rice crackers, there are lots of flavours.

I'm surprised this section is still going on after the show.

Try making some fruity desert recipes, better than the processed foods in the supermarkets. Use those kinds of ingredients that Dr. Clare said probably use the Low GI sugar as well even though i'm not quite sure about it.

I loovveee grapes. They tend to satisfy the psychological need for food too because you're constantly picking one at a time (rather than devouring a chocolate bar in one hit and still thinking you're wanting something more)!

Maybe chocolate soya products. 97.5% fat free chock milk, or 97.5% fat free choc or vanilla soya ice cream.... what out for high sugar content on some products
