I don't get home from work now until around 7.45pm and am finding it late to be eating a heavy meal.

I usually go to bed around 10pm. Can you give me some ideas of what I could eat that will digest easily and be quick and easy to prepare? I tend to have salmon and veg one night and maybe scrambled eggs on another, but after that I am stumped. FYI, I am 52 years old, if that matters. Thank you, Carol.

Hi Carol. Yes, your age is relevant since if you were a 19-year-old who has just come home from a game of basketball, you’d probably have a better chance at digesting heavier foods at that hour.

Soup in the cooler months is great, especially if you use soup mix, stock and veggies, or pumpkin blended with silken tofu to make it creamy – leaving out the meat that’s hard to digest in the evening. Or how about a simple bowl of lovely steamed vegetables with a dollop of houmus? Try to avoid red meat and chicken and of course no pasta, rice bread or crackers. Instead, have a little quinoa with a stir-fry and a few pieces of whiting.
